Artist's Statement:
This exhibition featured my latest paintings inspired by the beauty of Story County, Iowa, and my Germanic heritage. There were the night scenes I am known for as well as colorful daytime vignettes. The show also included a series of collaborative paintings based on the four elements, which I produced with my long-time and dear friend, Wendy Bickelhaupt Williams. Three vitrine display cases were filled with materials used in the creation of the paintings and an Imbolc holiday assemblage including two of my sketchbooks.
The selections of European smoking and smudging herbs I shared during my Artist's Talk at the reception were as follows:
Smoking:
Waldmeister (Sweet Woodruff)
Schafgarbe (Yarrow)
Beifuß (Mugwort)
Klettenlabkraut (Cleavers)
Smudging:
Tanne (Fir) saved from my celebration of Yule
Engelwurz (Angelica)
